Carrie Underwood brought the “Play On” Tour to a sold out crowd at the Fedex Forum on a beautiful autumn Friday in Memphis. It was an absolute delight to see Carrie perform as the headliner of her own tour. I had seen her as a warm up act a couple of times earlier in her career and she has definitely grown since then. The whole arena was singing along to all her hits from the rocking “Before He Cheats“, “Undo it” to the beautiful “Temporary Home” and “Jesus Takes the Wheel“. The show was full of wardrobe changes as you might imagine. There were beautiful backdrops for each song. “I Told You So” featured the Grand Old Opry set with none other than a virtual Randy Travis singing along. It was evident Carrie was much more comfortable and confident on stage than the last time I saw her. My favorite part of the show was when she was lifted up in the back of a blue pickup truck that was suspended from the ceiling and went around in a circle of the arena as she sang the cover of John Denver‘s “Take Me Home Country Roads“.

Ashley Clark and the brothers of Sons of Sylvia came back on stage to sing a song from the Play On album, “What Can I Say“. The crowd loved it! “Mama’s Song” and “How Great Thou Art” brought tears to the eyes of many.

Carrie Underwood absolutely gave the crowd what they paid for and more!
