One of Music Row’s most successful songwriters, Kyle Jacobs, has renewed his songwriters deal with Curb Publishing.

Jacobs’ biggest success, unlikely to be repeated, was as co-writer of Garth Brooks‘More Than a Memory,’ the only country song in history to debut straight at #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart.

Other artists to record Jacobs penned tunes include Tim McGraw, Lee Brice, Kenny Chesney, George Strait, Kelly Clarkson, Thompson Square, Scotty McCreery, Trace Adkins, Craig Morgan. Current single cuts include ‘Dust’ by Eli Young Band and unfortunately alsoDonkey,’ recorded by Jerrod Neimann.

More from the Curb press release:

Jacobs, who took piano lessons as a child, wrote his first song when he was a sophomore in high school. He was inspired by the death of his friend’s brother. “I sat down at a piano and plunked out a melody and it became ‘Michael’s Song,’” he says. “That’s when I first saw how writing a song could touch people.”

A move to Music City in 2000 didn’t initially bring the success he hoped for. He painted houses and slept in his car before one of his songs found its way to producer and record executive Mike Curb. The song, “8th World Wonder,” became Kimberly Locke’s breakthrough hit at adult contemporary radio in 2003.

But when he met fellow songwriter Lee Brice, his perspective changed. “Meeting Lee was a big deal,” Kyle says. “He’s 100% country. We became great collaborators.

“Writing with Lee helped me realize that country music is the most free world I can write in,” Kyle says. “I can write about God, I can write about drinking, I can rock it or I can bring it back a little bit. Musically I can be creative and it’s a huge world lyrically. He helped me discover that.

“I love writing pop melodies and putting a country lyric on it with a country voice,” he continues. “It’s just cool how it comes out. I love challenging myself musically.”

Jacobs calls “I Can’t Outrun You,” which is one of five cuts he has on Thompson Square’s Just Feels Good album and is slated to be a single, the song “I’m most proud of.” Struggling after a breakup with a serious girlfriend, he tried to write a song to ease the pain, but couldn’t. “I was too emotional and it was too soon,” Kyle recalls.

Jacobs has also found a niche in the production side of the business. He co-produced his first #1 hit, “Hard To Love” by Lee Brice, and followed it up with another #1, “I Drive Your Truck” which racked up CMA and ACM Song of The Year Awards.

As Kyle Jacobs learned with the first song he wrote, “music is about making a connection”. I just try to do the best I can to keep it real, to write about life.” “That’s when the best songs come out.”
