Out on country radio earlier this week, The Dirt Drifters’single, ‘Always A Reason’, has give me reason to check out this group a bit more closely.  Now available on iTunes and featured on their upcoming cd, “This is My Blood”, ‘Always A Reason’ has a working-man theme running through it. No, that is not new for country music, but combined with the gritty vocals and drum beat, it is somewhat reminiscent of John Mellancamp’s style. Two names popped into my head before I was through listening to the first verse …. Bruce Springsteen and John Mellancamp.  Catchy and with lyrics that just aren’t the “same old, same old” word choices, this single has genuinely piqued my interest enough to do some research and look forward to hearing their upcoming cd. As fate would have it, 4 out of the 5 members of this group, list Bruce Springsteen as one of their influences.  I always look for a raw and honest sound in music and lyrics, and without straining at all, I hear both of these here.

“Word on the vine is Johnny got a job, three days a week at the auto part shop…”  Written by band members Jeff Middleton and Ryan Fleener, along with Juston Wilson, here’s hoping the airplay of this single gives the band the boost they are looking for.
