Single Review – ‘Draw Me a Map’ – Dierks Bentley

Dierks Bentley surprised and delighted many with the release of his bluegrass-inspired album Up on the Ridge. With the return to where his musical heart really lies, Dierks delivered a creative project brimming with talent. Following the title track is second single ‘Draw Me a Map’.
Losing the woman he loves after taking her for granted, the man in this song begs her to help him to bring the couple closer again. It’s a simple premise which the imagery-rich lyrics explain beautifully. The wonderful acoustic arrangement, with gently weeping fiddle, complements the vulnerable vocal performance. The vulnerability is emphasized by the ethereal voice of Alison Krauss supplying the backing vocals.
The more I listen to Up on the Ridge, the more I hope that Dierks will just stay within the bluegrass genre. His voice and writing style are perfectly suited to something much more organic. Hopefully ‘Draw Me a Map’ will enjoy the commercial success it deserves so the ever-important business case is made.
