Nashville’s Saturday Night Live…with Hugh Mitchell at Blue Bar

Continuing my mission to help spread the word about new and/or independent artists, this edition of Nashville’s Saturday Night Live will introduce you to singer-songwriter Hugh Mitchell.

Raised in Birmingham, AL (but born in California) Mitchell grew up influenced by all the diverse musical stylings his hometown has to offer. As a result, his material binds several genres together, with West Coast confidence as the glue.

If strong writing is your thing, you are going to like this guy. With songs of love found and lost, triumphs and heartbreaks, he manages to find unique angles to approach the classic country music themes.

Last Saturday, he was joined on guitar by Gitano Herrera and performed at Nashville’s Blue Bar. If you are in Nashville on a Monday night, you can often find Mitchell at Dave Pahanish‘s Podunk Sessions at club 3rd and Lindsley. Songs to listen out for especially are ‘April Parade’ and the title track of his debut album, ‘Heartbreak Radio.’ Two different songs are featured below. Apologies for the darkness (please turn on some more lights, Chuck), but enjoy these tunes and leave some feedback in the comments.
