Jared Ashley has been carefully building his career and been making a name for himself the last few years. With new single, ‘Last Train To Memphis,’ at country radio now, he is looking to take it to the next level.

‘Last Train To Memphis’ is a solid piece of pop-country, conjuring an image of the road keeping two lovers apart, and the singer finally heading to the train station to meet his lover in Memphis. It’s a familiar image for any touring musician, and it’s a well written image to boot. Ashley and his co-writers take the listener on the trip to the train station in a taxi, through a flashback of the lovers’ last parting, and finally running through the station itself to catch the train. They add in details that may seem superfluous, but that really put things into perspective and give the song depth, like the girl’s sky-blue backpack that contains all her belongings for her trip back home after they part, or listening to an 80’s song on an AM station that calms the singer down.

The production on the song is also top notch. The instrumental arrangement provides a fantastic balance between softer and louder sections but without forcing Ashley to dramatically alter his laid back yet somber vocal delivery. The chorus in particular is very well done. Everything works in tandem with Ashley’s voice to provide a dynamic and cohesive whole.

This could well be the track that finally puts Jared Ashley where he needs to be in the world of country music!
