After success in the world of music placement, artist Robby Armstrong is releasing his debut single ‘Rodeo’ to country radio.
Armstrong’s voice and vocal performance are the strong point of this track. His gravelly-in-all-the-right-spots tenor leads the charge as he and the band navigate the song like a well-oiled machine. It drives and never lets up until the end, but the arrangement is anything but static. The playing is excellent and the production is top notch!
The song itself is rather hit-or-miss lyrically. There are good lines mixed in with so-so lines, all kind of getting at the ‘rodeo’ being a one night stand, or a night out at the club. Again, Armstrong’s voice is the star of the show and a perfect example of a great singer taking an average song and really making something of it with his delivery.
I’m looking forward to seeing what else Robby Armstrong has up his sleeve if for no other reason than because I’d like to hear him singing some better material than this. Regardless, it’s worth the price of admission just to hear Armstrong’s voice.
